Shanghaiist is hyperventilating. Just when we thought the worst was over , a new set of pics have surfaced. After looking through the pictures, we had to take a while to recover from the massive nasal haemorrhage we suffered before we could calm down ourselves enough to put this story together oh how very self-sacrificial! The surfacing of the new pictures are an embarrassment to the Hong Kong police, who with the eight arrests they have made over the last few days claimed that they have already come down to the source of the pictures.

'Sexy Photo Gate' Mesmerizes Hong Kong, China and Sparks Police Crackdown, Backlash - WSJ
Many local newspapers headlined the story consecutively during the first fortnight of February , relegating coverage of the Chinese winter storms to secondary prominence during Chinese New Year. In a crackdown which itself became a controversial item, the Hong Kong police enlisted the assistance of Interpol to stem the spread of the photographs. The police crackdown raised questions over violations of the privacy and free speech rights of Internet users. Chen admitted being the author and copyright owner of most of the photographs, and stated that the private photographs had been stolen and published illegally without his consent. He made a public apology, especially to the women involved, and also announced that he would "step away indefinitely" from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. In November , Chen purchased a pink PowerBook personal computer, a photograph of which he published on his blog.
Edison Chen in 1st movie since sex photo scandal
In a video statement Chen, 27, called the postings of the photographs "intentionally hurtful and malicious. Police believe the images were copied from Chen's computer when it was serviced last year. If you are still in possession of these images, I urge you to please destroy them immediately," a subdued-looking Chen added in the video.
Edison Chen will appear in his first movie since his career was derailed by a sex photo scandal more than a year ago. Slew Pictures founder Bertha Bay-Sa Pan is directing the movie, the story of an Asian woman who juggles the competing needs of her new boyfriend and her immediate family. It was not clear when the movie would be released. Photos that were leaked onto the Internet early last year showed Chen performing sex acts separately with eight female Hong Kong stars. The photos caused an uproar and forced the stars to suspend their careers.
