Painful conditions of unexplained origin pose a challenging task for the clinician from both the diagnosis and treatment perspective. This might be accounted due to overlapping symptomatology; moreover, nonspecific subjective findings push the diagnostic process to a more perplexing direction. The main loophole in their management lies in difficulty to make an appropriate diagnosis. Clicking hyoid is an extremely rare anomaly of hyoid bone which produces painful clicking in throat. DoctorGAF: My throat is making a weird cartilage crunching noise/thing when I swallow | NeoGAF
It's not in my throat, it's lower than that. It makes an audible sound audible to me, anyway. It comes and goes, and that area gets sore. It's been going on for a month now. Any ideas? I also have one side of my throat like, adam's apple area, but I don't have one because I am female.

Globus pharyngis or globus sensation is the persistent but painless sensation of having a pill, food bolus , or some other sort of obstruction in the throat when there is none. Swallowing is typically performed normally, so it is not a true case of dysphagia , but it can become quite irritating. As globus sensation is a symptom, a diagnosis of globus pharyngis is typically a diagnosis of exclusion.
